The Happiest Place on Earth — Disneyland, Turns 54

July 17th, 2009 | Tags: , ,

A groundbreaking concept in the world of family travel and entertainment  was born on July 17, 1955, as  Walt Disney opened Disneyland.  With 18 major attractions, the vision was for Disneyland to be a place where family and friends, children and adults, could come together and all have fun.

Now, 54 years to the day later, Walt’s dream is considered a national treasure, goes by the name of Disneyland Resort, and is a 500-acre destination with two theme parks, three hotels and a 20-acre dining, entertainment and retail complex, Downtown Disney District.

Entitled “The Happiest Place on Earth”, the original 85-acre Disneyland is the heart of today’s Disneyland Resort.  As Walt desired, Disneyland is in a “constant state of becoming” as new attractions and adventures are always in the works.

Among those changes currently on the drawing board, are these planned 2010 openings:

  • World of Color – a nighttime spectacular featuring a 9,000 seat viewing area
  • Little Mermaid Attraction
  • Cars Land – a new 12-acre “land” based on the Disney – Pixar animated film, Cars

For over 50 years, Disneyland has provided guests with a tradition of fun and warm hospitality, a standard we have grown to expect from all things Disney.  Thank you, Mr. Disney, for your dreams and visions.  Happy Birthday, Disneyland!!
