Looking for tips on what to do and see in Pisa, Florence and Lucca

I’m off to Tuscany for a week at the end of November 2009. I’ll be staying in Pisa, Florence and Lucca. If you have any tips on what I should do and see in this area, please leave a comment on this post.

I fly into Pisa on the Ryanair flight from Edinburgh. My accommodation has been arranged courtesy of Hotels.com. We spent a few hours in Pisa on our last day of our Tuscany and Umbria Tour in May 08. I thought I’ d like to spend a little more time there. My first lodgings are at the Grand Hotel Bonanno, Pisa.

Then I move onto Florence, staying at the Waldorf Suite.  I’ve never been to Florence before. When we were in the area in May 08 we had a hire car and were covering quite a bit of ground, so didn’t have time to fit in Florence. I’ll be meeting up with Alexandra Korey, a Florence-based art historian, an independent scholar and professor of Italian Renaissance Art and author of Arttrav.

My final destination, the walled town of Lucca has also been on my would like to visit list for some time. In Lucca I’ll be hosted by the Hotel Ilaria & Residenza dell’Alba.

If you have any tips on what I should do and see in Pisa, Florence and Lucca, especially beyond the usual tourist attractions, please leave a comment. I’ll add your tip with a link to your siteblog (if applicable) to be included when I compile my Tips ‘n’ Tweets post.
