Renee, a reader at The Disney Traveler, along with four adult friends have planned a well deserved, “girls only” trip to Walt Disney World. Upon reading several posts, she has discovered that the clubs at Pleasure Island have been closed to make room for additional restaurants and shopping experiences. “Now what are 5 women supposed to do?” she asks.
Well, Renee, here are a few suggestions:
- Listen to all the mothers negotiating with their “unhappy” children, momentarily miss those loved ones you left back home, take a deep breath and be thankful you don’t have the kids along on this trip and head off on your next adventure.

- Walt Disney World has over 50 lounges, many in the Disney Resort hotels, definitely worth exploring as most bartender’s create their own specialty cocktails. Don’t forget the many poolside bars, where you can get delicious food and drinks. Hop aboard the Monorail or other mode of Disney Transportation to safely “explore the world”.
- They may be singing the blues at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney, West Side but the atmosphere is pure fun at this live music club, open daily for lunch and dinner serving Southern cuisine and serving up popular and up and coming artists performing blues, jazz, gospel, reggae and rock.
- While you are at Downtown Disney, check out the recently opened Paradiso 37 highlighting North, Central and South American fare. Paradiso 37 offers Margaritas, Mojitos and has an extensive tequila bar – make that 37 varieties to be exact!
- Epcot is probably the most adult of all the Disney theme parks, as discussed in a previous post. Along with the daily attractions is another seasonal favorite, International Food & Wine Festival. This fall event is an amazing time to taste regional dishes and beverages from around the world. Pick up a passport at one of the gift shops and receive a stamp as you “experience” each new locale.
- One of my most favorite, “outside of Disney” dining spots is Cafe Tu Tu Tango located on International Drive (map). This Bohemian restaurant serves a wide selection of Tapas, or small plate entrees. Nestled among the dining tables are various artists working on their latest creation and selling some of their completed works – everything from paintings, jewelry, even someone reading Tarot cards. Not to be missed here are the refreshing adult beverages and of course, the occasional Tango demonstration.
- Don’t forget you are on vacation, relax and enjoy one of the two full service Spas — Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, or The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa both specializing in luxuries that are relaxing, restorative and invigorating. Don’t have time for the full treatment? Then check out one of the five salons throughout Disney World that offer manicures and pedicures.
- Now that you are relaxed, listen to all the mothers negotiating with their “unhappy” children, momentarily be thankful that you don’t have the kids along on this trip, take a deep breath and miss those loved ones you left back at home and head off to plan your next trip, with them, to Walt Disney World.
